My name is Seth and I’m a visual designer.

Who I am

I’m a tech-enthused, music-loving, design-appreciating 36 year-old living in Manhattan with my wife, Shelby, and pit bull, Pascal, and my 2021 Audio Aura was mostly blue with a little orange. For fun, I enjoy inline skating, exercising, playing with Pascal, learning for learning’s sake, VR, programming, and taking things apart just to see if I can put them back together.

Video at Lincoln Center

David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center, home of the New York Philharmonic, underwent a two-year renovation starting in 2020, with its grand reopening in October of 2022. I had the pleasure of being one of the first outside designers to utilize their 40-foot digital wall (12480×1890, 416:63) in its new lobby. The media’s function was to serve as a sizzle reel advertising Distinguished Concerts International New York.

Compositing

Every visual designer needs to have in their tool belt expert-level compositing skills. Not only does learning to composite train the eye better than most other skills, but the practice of compositing forces the designer to solve fundamental design problems relating to contrast, levels, color, blending, and composition.

Posters at Carnegie Hall & Lincoln Center

Currently, I work for a concert production company that hosts concerts at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York City. I serve the company as its sole graphic designer and web developer. In addition to maintaining the company’s visual image, my main objective is to brand 25-30 concerts each season and build a suite of print and web graphics to accompany each show.

At the heart of each show’s brand is the 3-sheet poster that is posted outside the venue encouraging passerby’s to purchase tickets. After I design this poster and receive approval, I use branding guidelines to inform the design of a full suite of digital and print assets in the form of social media graphics, eblasts, banner ads, industry magazine print ads, program inserts, and more to support the show during the advertising process.

Album Artwork and Booklet Design

In the summer of 2019, I was fortunate to be offered the opportunity to brand the release of the Goossens/Beecham orchestration of Handel’s Messiah. This was a project in collaboration with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and recorded at Abby Road Studios in London. While the key artwork was fully left to me to conceive and design, the overall booklet design was a collaborative effort with the design team at Signum Classics, the record label we partnered with to produce the record.

The design process lasted approximately three months and required careful adhesion to Signum Classics and DCINY brand guidelines. Since Signum is located in London, UK, all collaborative work was performed remotely, which required the packaging of Adobe assets and passing them back and forth with careful consideration to version control. Use the interactive book below to flip through the booklet and feel free to check out the album on Spotify.

Web Design & Development

In addition to print and digital design work, I have extensive experience in web design and development. In today’s digital age, I feel that a good designer must be fluent and have strong working knowledge of HTML and CSS. Below, I’ve included samples of my work for Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) where I, over a six month period, solely completed a from-scratch web rebuild of www.DCINY.org.

The website’s primary function is to serve as an advertising tool to entice potential clients to come perform with DCINY on their concert series here in New York City. To serve this function, a lot of information information needs to be populated on dozens of individual pages throughout the site. My solution was to integrate a bridge from the website to DCINY’s existing Salesforce org so that other DCINY team members can input concert details in Salesforce that push automatically to select pages on the website. Examples of this functionality can be seen on the Archives page, where the information on individual concert pages is being populated entirely by Salesforce.

Below are samples of my annual Halloween Edits that I publish every year the week before Halloween. These edits are important to me because they serve as an annual benchmark of my skill and give me the chance to push the boundaries of what I’m capable of in terms of photo-realistic editing. 🎃
